Sex-Segregated Public Restrooms Are an Outdated Relic of Victorian Paternalism

ENG 200
Reading Log

Each week you will choose an article, a video, or a collection of articles and videos from the many choices I tweet out to consider more thoughtfully and thoroughly than a 140-character response or a class discussion. To develop your thinking, you must continue to challenge your thinking and ideologies every chance that you can. It does not matter what your ideologies are in this class; it only matters that your thinking expands beyond knee-jerk opinions and group think.

Once you have selected which article(s) and/or video(s) you wish to write about, write 1-2 pages reflecting on the following questions:
• How does it compare or contrast to the topics we have discussed in class?
• Does it change or alter your position on the topic?
• Do you feel a personal connection to this topic? How?
• Does it represent a different perspective than your own? How?
• Does it represent your personal experiences?
• What emotions does it invoke?
• Does it seem to request action on your part? How? What?
• How do your actions/attitudes/beliefs perpetuate it?

You do not have to answer every question. This isn’t a Q&A assignment. This is a log of your responses to the information I am sharing with you. You are simply using these questions to begin to investigate why you are having the response you are to what you have read/seen.

You will want to provide a short summary (no more than 5-7 sentences) of your article/video. Then, begin to provide your response to what you have read/seen.

This assignment will be graded based on your ability to demonstrate the use of rhetorical analysis terms, to analyze and interpret texts, and to create a thoughtful argument.
